What's Ethical, Right and Wrong?

Ethical, as defined by Oxfords dicitonary, is the act of avoiding activities or organizations that do harm to people or the environment.

Almost everyone has an opinion on what it means to be eithical, right and wrong.

I like to keep things simple- to start from the beginning.

You have probably heard of the golden rule "Do unto others as you would have done unto you."

Do you want to be eithical? Ask yourself some of these easy questions the next time you are having difficutly deciding what's right or wrong.

(1.) Would I like it if (fill in the blank) was done to me?

(2.) If I was in that (fill in the blank)'s position, what would I want others to do about it?

Some examples:

Would I like it if my children were taken from me?

Would I like to have my throat slit?

Would I like to be caged?

Would I like to have a bolt shot through my head?

Would I like to be starved?

Would I like to be enslaved?

I realize that these questions sound absolutely rediculous, as they should, but that's also the point. These questions and your answers to them should be consciousness raisers. Meaning, you should say to yourself, OH MY GOSH, of course I would not wish this on 'anyone'.

Well, what does it mean to be 'anyone', 'someone', or 'something'?

I explain this much further in the "ANIMALS" section, but I'll give a brief explanation here.

It's obvious to most that when we say anyone and someone we are usually referring to a certain animal- Homo Sapiens, the human primate. But that's weird, why would I call us animals, we are no beasts!!! Well, we ARE mammals, and like all other mammals our perception of the world is very similar.

We see light via organs called eyes, we interprete sounds from vibrations via organs called ears, we differeniate airborne chemicals (we call them smells) via a crafty organ called a nose, and we experience heat and cold, pain and pleasure via nerves (neurons) that run throughout most of our body.

What's really cool is that we all get to experience these sensations from a front row seat we call consciousness. How do I know that other mammals have consciousness like us? Well, how do I know that you have consciousness? I don't, I assume you are conscious, like me, because you share the same organ structure and behave similarly to myself. We make the same assumption of consciousness for other mammals too.

Here are some quick and easy facts for all mammals?

They experience all of the below... to name a few.

-Pain

-Pleasure

-Taste

-Smell

-Hot

-Cold

-Loneliness

-Fear

-Anger

-Depression

-Anxiety

-Saddness

-Happyness

-Nervousness

-Boredom

Maybe you are the type of person that only cares if bad things happen to you and the ones that you love. Maybe you are the type that cares if 'anyone' experiences bad things. I hope you are the latter, for my sake and every other sentient animal on this planet.

This website cannot change you, nor is that my intention. This website is simply a database of compiled and easily accessible research on topics concerning ethics.

Do you want to become a more ethical eater? Visit the section titled "Animal." How about a more ethical purchaser? Visit the section titled "Stores." More environmentally ethical/friendly? You get the point.
